The Foundation for Self-Taught American Artists aims to create a deeper understanding and broader appreciation of self-taught art through the production, acquisition, promotion, and distribution of documentary films—supported by an engaging and dynamic website—to educate and inspire a growing audience of diverse communities.

Goal 1

Document the work of self-taught American artists

  • Create and gather documentary films and raw footage about self-taught artists
  • Build a repository of material for the purpose of expanding scholarship about self-taught artists while supporting the mission of the Foundation

Build public awareness about the work and lives of self-taught American artists through outreach initiatives that spark the imagination and support achievement in the lives of others

  • Further the educational mission of the Foundation through strong collaborations and partnerships
  • Create a state-of-the-art website that functions as the definitive gateway to information and learning about self-taught American artists
  • Promote lively and engaging documentary films and videos about self-taught artists
  • Establish a recognized brand that reflects the Foundation’s mission as a leader in the field of self-taught American artists

Build the institutional capacity of the Foundation

  • Maintain financial stability of the organization
  • Enhance ongoing programs and develop new initiatives to raise funds for both general operations and specific projects
  • Create an internal HR structure that supports the mission of the Foundation
